N-Heterocyclic Silylenes as ambiphilic Ligands in Organometallic Chemistry

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512106208

This project comprises the use of N-heterocyclic silylenes (NHSis) with five-membered diazasilacyclopentene rings, the higher homologues of the Arduengo-Carbenes, as ligands in organometallic chemistry. Our previous work has demonstrated that NHSi ligands provide interesting features for coordination chemistry, which are considerably different from those observed for NHC or phosphine ligands. Therefore, synthesis, reactivity and properties of NHSi complexes will be explored in detail. The main goals of the project are (i) to establish sterically less demanding NHSi ligands in complex synthesis, (ii) to expand the basis of well-characterized NHSi complexes considerably and to explore the properties of these compounds in detail, (iii) to explore the reactivity of NHSi complexes systematically and (iv) to perform first investigations concerning the catalytic activity of selected NHSi complexes.
