Open-Access-Publicationfunding / 2026-2028 / Universität der Bundeswehr München

Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512492996

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) has made significant progress in the field of Open Access (OA). A digital funding workflow has been established, funds for book and journal publications have been introduced, and the OA publication rate has been substantially increased. Publications are centrally recorded in the AtheneForschung repository, ensuring high data quality. The university library plays a key role as an OA promoter, focusing on transformative agreements with major publishers. Centralized financial management enables efficient budget control. For the funding period, UniBw M pursues five strategic goals: 1) strengthening Open Access competencies, 2) optimizing technical and organizational processes, 3) promoting overall open access expertise and visibility within the university, 4) ensuring the long-term preservation and visibility of scientific outputs, and 5) improving transparency and traceability of publication and funding data. Planned measures include the further development of the digital funding workflow, expansion of metadata capture (including for third-party funding documentation), evaluation of new repository solutions, promotion of Diamond Open Access models, and intensification of communication and advisory services, including cooperation with the university’s writing center. The overarching aim is to firmly establish Open Access as an integral part of scientific practice at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.
