In this project, polyolic structures will be built enantioselectively via the formation of a transient hemiketal from prochiral starting materials. Crucial for the formation of novel C-O bonds is the respective stability of the transient hemiketal, as well as its nucleophilicity, which will be investigated over the course of this project. Building on the acquired knowledge, we aim to explore catalysts to control the enantio- and diastereoselectivity of the newly formed C-O bonds, and to use the established molecular complexity in specific synthetic applications.
