In the complex shaping of glasses, there is always an interaction between the cooling glass melt and the respective solid shaping material. A previously widespread theory of the interaction between glass in the visco-elastic range and the respective contact material refers to the so-called sticking temperature. Our own investigations have now shown that these relationships to the bonding temperature are not tenable. Several factors influence sticking or non-sticking and it has been shown that temperatures well above sticking temperatures can be reached without the glass sticking to the forming material. The main goal of the proposed project is the fundamental research of the glass contact interactions of different substrates (metallic and non-metallic) compared to a soda-lime silicate glass. This is used to check the model with other glass compositions (e.g. TFT glasses, borosilicate glasses). Based on molecular-kinetic dependencies, a model is constructed from the results that explains the glass-contact interactions and allows a prediction of the suitability of materials (including alloys) for glass-shaping under the appropriate conditions (composition, temperature, atmosphere). This model represents a decisive advance in the fundamental description of the glass-contact interactions and at the same time application-relevant optimization of the shape (e.g. avoidance of mold lubrication in container glass).
