The application of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) in the DFG's Open Access (OA) Publication Costs program is based on the high commitment of the UKE to Open Science. Against this background, the UKE seeks to support scientists working at the UKE in order to facilitate publication of scientific research results in OA format. This shall be accomplished by establishing a DFG-funded OA publication fund and by facilitating the access to OA funding. Furthermore, structures and procedures shall be established in order enhance the transparency of publication volume at the UKE and the associated costs. Finally, the visibility of UKE research results shall be increased internationally via the promotion of OA publications. DFG OA publication funding will be used as an impetus to expand the portfolio of consultation services related to OA publishing. At the same time, young scientists shall become increasingly aware of the need for a fundamental transformation of scientific output in the direction of openness in the medical faculty.
