Funding of Open-Access-Publications / 2026-2028 / University Medical Center Hamburg

Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512857456

The University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf, recognised as a premier institution for medical research in Germany, strongly advocates for the open, transparent, cooperative, and sustainable open access publication model. During the initial funding phase starting in 2023, funds awarded through the open access programme supported the publication of several hundred articles in reputable open-access journals. Additionally, a comprehensive array of foundational advisory and training formats was developed, along with regular updates on open access initiatives. During the second funding phase we are currently applying for, our goal is to continually enhance the proportion of open-access publications to further raise the visibility of research conducted at our institution. We will expand our advisory and training programs, including topics related to the use of artificial intelligence in scientific publishing. This will increase awareness among young scientists regarding the transformation of the scientific publication system and the principles of good scientific practice. Additionally, we will continue to establish a transparent information budget at our Faculty, which will be virtually integrated into the broader information budget of the University of Hamburg. The initiatives we propose here have the potential to sustainably enhance the acceptance of the open access concept as the standard for scientific publishing among researchers at all levels of qualification within our institution and beyond.
