3D-Scanning-Laser-Doppler-Vibrometer

Subject Area Systems Engineering
Term Funded in 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 513972229

Objects in nature and technology vibrate and each vibration depends on the energy input, the material composition and the object structure. In general, vibrations in machines can lead to material stress, wear, noise generation and higher energy consumption and must therefore be optimized. A contactless optical measurement of vibrations without mass input into the vibrating system as with tactile motion sensors offers relevant advantages. For this reason, various working groups at the TU Clausthal are engaged in vibration analysis with a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV). The applicant has already co-developed 3D scanning laser Doppler vibrometers (3D-RLDV) during his industrial activity, which allow non-contact analysis of vibration behavior, and is applying for such a device in this application for his own research of new technologies in laser Doppler vibrometry. However, a 3D scanning laser Doppler vibrometer will be accessible to all researchers at Clausthal University of Technology for vibration analysis at the Clausthal Center for Materials Engineering. Specifically, however, the system is envisioned in the applicant's research group for outdoor tracking applications and will be used to measure, for the first time, 3D vibrations on moving objects (e.g., moving cars and vibrations generated by these vehicles or wind turbine blades) outdoors. To this end, a device with open interfaces is to be procured and expanded with proprietary software solutions, so that the large-scale device will be used primarily for research into new technology for laser Doppler vibrometry.
