Role and regulation of muscle-residing Foxp3+ Treg cells in health and disease (A02)

Subject Area Immunology
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 490846870

In preliminary studies, we showed that exercise increased muscle Treg cells. However, it is currently unclear, how muscle Treg cells respond to myokines (like IL-6) modulated upon exercise. Conversely, feedback of local Treg cells on muscle function and repair is incompletely understood. Therefore, loss-of-function IL-6 sensing, Amphregulin production and EGF-sensing in Treg cells will be introduced in genetic models to dissect how Treg cells control muscle function and repair in response to exercise or muscle injury. Advancing the understanding of the molecular interface mediating these muscle Treg cell-based mechanisms will be crucial for future immunometabolic therapeutic opportunities.
