Project Details
Thermal conductivity and thermal Hall effect of frustrated magnets (B05)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 492547816
We characterize quasiparticle dynamics in electrically insulating, frustrated magnets by thermal conductivity and thermal Hall effect measurements. New experimental setups for small crystals will be developed to better accommodate specimens smaller than 1 mm in size. Thermal transport is a suitable probe for fractionalized excitations in spin-liquid candidates (triangular antiferromagnets, Kitaev magnets), quantum-to-classical crossover in spin-ice candidates, and topological magnon bands in field-polarized states of magnets with strong spin-orbit interactions.
