Load-oriented tool development for energy-supported diamond turning (T08*)

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 223500200

Project Description

This transfer project deals with the dependence of local material loads from different tool geometries used for energy-supported diamond turning of silicon. It is the first time to apply the concept of load-based process signatures on the special semi-conductor material silicon, studying the influence of determined variation of mechanical and thermo-mechanical material loads. With the use of process simulation, the local loads can be calculated. Dedicated experimental work is planned using vibration- and laser-assisted diamond turning for validation purposes. The diamond tool development for these processes is of high interest for the chosen industrial partner.
