The project is aimed at a thorough understanding of the interplay of compact (predicted by the quark model) and extended (compound, that is, molecular) states in the context of exotic hadrons containing heavy quarks and under realistic conditions. These include working above the open-flavour threshold in the vincinity of multiple strongly interacting hadronic thresholds and existence of multiple compact quark-model states. The questions to be addressed include the motion of the poles of the multichannel amplitude as the coupling between the compact and molecular states changes, establishing regimes when near-threshold poles appear and represent molecular states, studying the line shapes in different production and decay channels which emerge, confronting the results obtained with the experimental data on hadrons with heavy quarks, pinpointing promising exotic candidates, and deriving predictions for not yet observed exotic states in the spectrum of charmonium and bottomonium.
