The project "Nietzsche's Correspondence. Digital Edition and Commentary" adds the last missing pillar to the architecture of the currently most ambitious digital edition in the field of philosophy - Nietzsche Source. The new edition has considerable surplus value compared to the earlier letter editions: it (1.) checks, revises and corrects the constituted text of the previous reference edition based on the digital facsimiles created within the framework of the DFG-LIS project Complete Digital Facsimile Edition of Friedrich Nietzsche (DFGA), which was approved in 2019. It expands (2.) the edition by including all letters to Nietzsche for the first time. It implements (3.) new search and commentary functions, and 4.) creates additional possibilities for contextualization. The project goes beyond the existing text-critical apparatus by including a philosophical commentary which, in addition to traditional critical commentaries, also offers overview commentaries of selected correspondences. (6.) The separation of drafts, letters and supplementary reports made in earlier editions is abolished, in order to (7.) integrate the letters into Nietzsche's philosophical oeuvre and opens up new horizons of interpretation for the genesis of his writings and his philosophy in general. A critical edition that makes Nietzsche's correspondence freely accessible worldwide is currently the most urgent desideratum of international Nietzsche research.
