Tracing star formation through observations of UV-chemistry (A06)

Project A6 plans to improve our understanding of photon-dominated regions (PDRs), in particular the role and distribution of PAHs and very small dust grains and the details of the H2 formation and ex-citation. New observational constraints are just flowing in from the JWST. Based on a clumpy PDR modelling, we implement a framework to fit observations of any known spatial structure. Efficient tools for the comparison of large observational data sets with the model predictions for a large set of lines and continuum data are to be developed.
