Large BCL-2-family protein complexes on the outer mitochondrial membrane and their role in the decision to undergo apoptosis (A08)

The decision to undergo mitochondrial apoptosis is made by the interaction of pro- and anti-apoptotic members of the BCL-2 family. Yet, often no clear change in their abundance or a sign of activation of the BH3-only protein can be observed, suggesting complex ways of post-translational activation. This project will investigate how dynamic changes in the interaction of BCL-2 proteins in large mitochondrial complexes regulate decision-making processes during mitochondrial apoptosis induction.
