A Community-Driven Ecosystem of Adapters and Application Cases for the Coupling Library preCICE

Subject Area Computer Architecture, Embedded and Massively Parallel Systems
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 528693298

preCICE is a well-established research software for partitioned multi-physics and multi-scale simulations with a significant user community. It enables the efficient, robust, and parallel coupling of existing simulation codes. When discussing "preCICE", users and other researchers only see the coupling library at its heart. preCICE is more, however: a complete ecosystem of adapters for established simulation codes, application cases, and many more components. The quality of these other components and the appreciation of their developers lags significantly behind the library. In this project, we improve the FAIRness of adapters, enable the community for adapter development, and make application cases reproducible. To this end, we design and implement standardization and quality control of adapter and application case development together with the community. We, moreover, simplify adapter and application case development via automation and disseminate good practices via community training.
