The proposed research impulse "Smart Factory Grids - Methodologies for a service-based, highly flexible, dynamic distributed manufacturing with autonomous, adaptive and resilient systems" is based on the vision of dynamically distributed manufacturing composed of multiple manufacturing facilities, each with specialized capabilities, to enable highly flexible manufacturing. The basis of these smart factory grids is formed by cyber-physical systems that act autonomously and cooperatively, evaluate themselves and are resilient to external disturbances. With this research project, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences would like to establish a permanent interdisciplinary research network that will provide groundbreaking impulses, innovations and insights for the transformation of the manufacturing industry, especially in the industrial location of Baden-Württemberg.
