Ladungsaustausch und Paarproduktion in einem elektromagnetischen Feld

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2001 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5316626

The inclusion of an external electromagnetic field (EEF) in atomic collision introduces new degrees of freedom and can open new reaction channels or substantially influence reaction channels which already exist in the field-free collisions. This project is devoted to study two different processes where an EEF might play an important or even crucial role. The first process is the electron transfer in fast nonrelativistic atomic collisions stimulated by an EEF. The second process is the electron-positron pair production in collisions between a point-like charged projectile and a very powerful EEF. Cross sections for electron transfer reactions stimulated by an EEF will be calculated using first order and nonperturbative approaches. The dependence of the electron transfer on the properties of the colliding particles and the EEF will be analysed. Cross sections for processes of free and bound-free pair production in collisions between a charged projectile and a powerful EEF will be calculated using different methods. The dependence of these processes on charge and energy of the projectile and on intensity, frequency, polarization and pulse shape of an EEF will be studied.
