Description of Coordination Activities The coordination of a project as large as "photonic crystals" involves in particular: · Organization of meetings of all kinds (annual project meeting, special workshops, symposia in the context of other meetings, e.g. the DFG spring meetings, ...). · Establishing contacts ("Networking") to organized and individual efforts in other countries (participation in international meetings; presentation of the program in various institutions, ...). · Encouragement of cooperation between project members and other interesting national or international groups. · Encouragement and organization of special publications including special issues of established journals. · Conceiving, running and updating the Internet presentation of the project. · Representation of the project to the public in general ("public relation") and to the DFG and other agencies in particular. · Helping all project members with their everyday questions and problems as the first instance to turn to.
