Project Details
Improved Filters for Turbulence Control and Start-up without Freezing at Reduced Melt Superheat Temperature (T11#)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
The proposed research project focusses on two major issues associated with metal casting: 1) an improved turbulence control of the melt flow by employing a ceramic foam filter before the melt enters the mould and 2) an increased energy efficiency by reducing the melt and the filter superheat temperatures during priming of the filter. For this purpose, extensive numerical simulations will be carried out, which will be validated by experiments to be conducted by the application partner. This expertise will be used for proposing filters with modified geometries and enhanced properties.
