Synthesis, characterization, genotoxicity and systemic toxicity of Polycyclic Polyprenylated Acyl phloroglucinols (PPAPs)

Subject Area Toxicology, Laboratory Medicine
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 536125858

Within the framework of the 'Indo-German funding initiative in medical research - Toxicology', the planned new PPAP derivatives are to be investigated not only for their activity, but above all for their toxicity and tolerability in various animal models and cell cultures. We have two established insect models, the wax moth larvae model in Tübingen, Germany, and the Drosophila model in Kerela, India. In both models the compounds are tested first and only if they do not show toxic activities here, they are further investigated in the mouse model. With this approach, we aim to significantly reduce the number of mouse experiments. The Indian partner has a well-established mouse model which is indispensable for a more detailed investigation of the (un)desired activities in the mammalian model. In addition to the ideal scientific Indo-German partnership, it is of great concern to us to maintain and deepen this partnership in the long term. A first start has already been made with Aparna Viswanathan Ammanath from the Biswas working group, who is currently completing her doctoral thesis in the Götz working group in Tübingen. It is therefore a concern of this German-Indian cooperation project that the participating PhD students engage in a scientific exchange of several months in the respective host laboratories. This would strengthen the mutual relations and consolidate the scientific connection between India and Germany also beyond the application period.
