The diverse psyche in therapy: Sex/gender knowledge in West German psychotherapy (1960-2020) (S08)

This project aims to identify and characterise (1) trajectories of sex/gender knowledge in hegemonic psychotherapies and clinical psychology; (2) trajectories of sex/gender knowledge and psychological knowledge in the women’s, the gay and lesbian, and LGBT*IQ movements; and (3) trajectories of sex/gender knowledge in interviews with contemporary witnesses. Contemporary witness interviews will be carried out with psychotherapeutic practitioners and former psychotherapeutic patients. The project adds psychotherapy as a context that is relevant for the diversity of sex and gender but has often been overlooked.
