Project Details
Birth of the Central European Basin (CEB): volcanism, sedimentation and tectonics
Applicant
Professor Dr. Christoph Breitkreuz
Subject Area
Palaeontology
Term
from 2002 to 2006
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5369546
The project deals with the early (Pre-Parchim/-Drawa) evolution of the Central European Basin (CEB). In close co-operation with the Polish Geological Institute, the projects aims at a careful reconstruction and modeling of sedimentation, volcanism, tectonics and basin development during initiation and early stage of CEB. Within a large sea reaching from North Germany (Schleswig-Holstein, NE Germany) to western Poland, (i) detailed core descriptions, log evaluation and analysis of existing reports and (ii) a compilation of thematic digital maps (base of Permian, base of zechstein, isopachs) will be carried out.
