Variability of the near bottom hydrography, currents and mixing processes in the Logatchev-Field
Final Report Abstract
Given the major failures and drawbacks happening during the various cruises (L’Atalante cruise), mooring and instrument loss, no deployments during MSM because of too much wind for ROV operations, we still gained some important data sets. These data sets (near bottom hydrography, Tow-Yo sections with CTD, current shear by LADCP, MAPR time series) are valuable as they can be used as background information for the biogeochemical work within the SPP participants. We had the opportunity to employ a young scientist who qualified as a PhD-candidate in the Bremen University group of M. Rhein. However, most important outcome of the subproject is a new collaboration with the objective to study the near bottom mixing zone in the Mid Adlantic Ridge by an AUV-mounted Microstructure Profiler and a whole suite of new scientific objectives going along with this effort.
