Project Details
Differently shaped hard body colloids in confinement: from walls to porous media (D03)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2002 to 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5485412
Using both static and dynamical density functional theory and computer simulations, we aim at a theoretical description of the collective behaviour of colloidal particles with various anisometric shapes. The particles are confined by flat or structured walls, by optical traps or in porous media. First, static quantities like the phase diagram and the interfacial structures between coexisting phases will be calculated for suspensions of hard particles and their mixtures. Second, the transport properties and nonequilibrium dynamics under confinement will further be explored both for passive and “active” particles which are self-propelled by their own intrinsic motor.
