Final Report Abstract

This central service project performed two tasks: 1. Integration of local databases and setup of a central database embedded in the Hospital Information System (HIS) medico//s 2. Statistical support for the project partners. In the past, relevant data of donors and recipients were stored in local databases. These databases are replaced by a central database which is embedded in the Hospital Information System (HIS) medico//s. Project S-I coordinated the design and set-up of this central database which required the specification of an item catalogue which satisfies all user requirements of our project partners. Next, Project S-I embedded the catalogue in the HIS medico//s system. The central database contains more than 200 harmonized items which cover important aspects of living-related and/or cadaveric liver transplantations (e.g. details of transplantation surgery of recipient and donor, blood transfusions, lab data, immunosuppression, complications related to transplantation, follow-up information of recipient). Project S-I also provided statistical support at various levels (sometimes beyond the focus of liver transplantation). Starting with basic statistical advice for the planning and conduct of experiments - including sample size considerations - to advice regarding the use of statistical analysis software packages. Moreover, Project S-I also performed non-standard statistical analyses where required and contributed to publications (i.e. performed analyses, created figures and tables and wrote parts of the manuscripts). Using the infrastructure of the Center for Clinical Trials Essen we also supported our clinical partners (Prof. Minor, Prof. Paul) in a successful DFG proposal of a clinical trial.
