Negative ions in strong laser fields
Final Report Abstract
The project under report provides an important contribution to the study of strongfield ionization of atomic systems. This contribution comprises the following aspects: • A better understanding of the effect of quantum interference in the continuum. This effect governs the photoelectron emission in a linearly polarized laser field. However, it is absent in a circularly polarized field. • The experimental establishment of the length gauge as being the proper one to use for the description of laser field in the frame of the strong-field approximation. This result represents an important cornerstone in the years-long discussion on this subject. " Revealing electron correlations as being destructive for the interference effect. The destruction of interference is accomplished due to the angular part of electron correlations • Demonstration of the sequential character of double detachment of negative ions as being due to the high ratio of ionization potential to electron affinity of atoms. This result demonstrates the possibility of studying strong-field ionization of atoms prepared by means of photodetachment of their negative ions.
