Position-controlled semiconductor nanotubes as templates for novel hybrid nanomaterials

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2004 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5429307

Rolled-up semiconductor nanotubes (RUNTs) will be accurately positioned on a substrate surface and subsequently exploited as nanoreactors to locally synthesise novel hybrid materials. The positioning process of the RUNTS combines self-organisation and lithography and will be studied as a function of various process parameters such as etching time and layer thicknesses. We intend to locally heat individual and well-positioned RUNTs with focussed laser light and the local chemical synthesis of laterally modulated hybrid materials will be monitored in-situ with micro-Raman spectroscopy. Ex-situ characterisation will be carried out by means of micro-photoluminescence, transmission as well as scanning tunnelling microscopy.
