Applicant
Professor Dr. Ingo Birger Autenrieth
Subject Area
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2004 to 2008
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5468788
Several projects of the Forschergruppe are dealing with host-pathogen interactions. To obtain optimized cooperations and synergistic effects whithin the Forschergruppe, cultivation of mammalian cells for cellular microbiology experiments of the Forschergruppe will be performed in a common cell culture facility at the Instiute for Medical Microbiology. Cell culture of, e.g., epithelial cells (HeLa), endothelial cells (HUVECs), macrophages, dendritic cells or fibroblasts will be performed according to highly standardized protocols in this central cell culture laboratory. Additionally, cell infection experiments, preparation of primary cells and preparing cell stocks including management of the cell stocks will be performed in this central unit. This facility will ensure a high level of reproducibility of cell culture experiments. Likewise a central animal facility at the Institute of Medical Mirobiology provides excellent specific-pathogen free animal housing conditions with IVCs and a number of gene-targeted mouse strains that can be used by the various projects of the Forschergruppe for in vitro and in vivo experiments to study the interactions of bacterial cell envelope and the host.
