Numerische Studie zur Strömungsdynamik des äußeren Erdkerns
Final Report Abstract
In conclusion our results suggest that the double-diffusive approach for modelling core convection and potentially the geodynamo introduces distinct flow dynamics, that are not present in the single-diffusive models. These also called codensity models may therefore neglect important properties of the more realistic double-diffusive system. As shown, the thermo-chemical approach should certainly be considered in driving scenarios where both forces are of comparable strength. Future works on the dynamo problem should therefore take both driving sources into account, especially if the boundary conditions of the components are fundamentally different. Only explicitly double-diffusive models can incorporate both types of boundary conditions simultaneously and assess their combined effects on the flow and magnetic field dynamics.
