C03 explores the interplay between phosphate and iron availability in root system architecture. LOW PHOSPHATE ROOT 1 (LPR1), a cell wall-localised multicopper oxidase, facilitates iron-dependent phosphate sensing, influencing root meristem activity and overall architecture. Various LPR1 proteoforms will be expressed, biochemically characterised, and structurally analysed in the Stubbs lab. In planta studies will investigate their functional consequences under different growth/soil conditions. This project provides insights into nutrient-dependent root responses.
