Project Details
Realization and dissemination of dynamic forces and related quantities using the Kibble balance principle
Applicant
Dr.-Ing. Norbert Rogge
Subject Area

Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 546584462
The proposed project focuses on extending the working principle of a Kibble balance, which is one of the two methods that are recommended for the realization of the kilogram after the redefinition of the SI system of units, to the calibration of dynamic forces. Based on the know-how of the applicant and the host institution Measurement Standards Laboratory (MSL) gained during the development of Kibble balances with an ac velocity mode, the feasibility and the achievable measurement uncertainties of a dynamic force mode that generates sinusoidal or arbitrary forces will be investigated. A particular research subject will be the impedance effects that occur during such a force mode and which have significant impact on the overall uncertainty. Due to the unique infrastructure and preliminary work at MSL it will be possible to further extend investigations on the method for the calibration and traceable generation of arbitrary pressure changes. The planned experimental and theoretical studies will be conducted with existing measurement setups at MSL and concluded with an uncertainty assessment.
