SPP 1010:  Reaktivität von Festkörpern

Subject Area Chemistry
Term from 1996 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5467089

Inorganic Solid State Chemistry produces subject to the refinement and development of preparative methods innumerable new and novel compounds with often unexpected physical properties. It thereby builds up the basis for the development of new materials. An intimate knowledge of the reactivity of solids is not as well developed. Without knowing the reaction pathways, it is impossible to control and direct them to influence the properties of solids. Fundamental objectives of the priority programme "Reactivity of Solids" are the clarification of reaction pathways and their control and management, the isolation and characterization of intermediates, the directed and designed production of solids with special properties (such as purity or physical effects), the synthesis of metastable compounds and the development of new synthetic methods, the pursuit of reaction pathways in situ and in special cases also with surface sensitive methods. As reactive classes of compounds, metals and intermetallic phases on one hand, and non-metals and their compounds, on the other hand, were selected. The priority programme is primarily situated in Inorganic Solids State Chemistry. It will, however, only be successful through interdisciplinary cooperation with and between physical chemists, solid state physicists and theoreticians.
