ESCRT-III-mediated membrane remodelling in Archaea and Eukarya (P14)

The ESCRT-III machinery deforms and severs cellular membranes according to a mechanism that is conserved from Archaea to Eukarya, despite the vast differences in the lipidome between these two domains of life. P14 will reconstitute archaeal ESCRT-III polymers on membranes and study their assembly. A comparison with eukaryotic proteins, focusing on archaeal-like and eukaryotic-like lipid compositions, will reveal conserved features of the molecular mechanism and its adaption to its lipid environment.
