Minaic is part of the Ancient South Arabian language family. It is documented by around 2000 inscriptions spanning the entire 1st millennium BC. Due to the Minaeans' strong involvement in international trade between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean, these inscriptions provide important information not only for the history of the Arabian Peninsula in particular, but also for the economic and social history of the Ancient World in general. Over the past years, numerous newly discovered inscriptions, particularly in the field of everyday writing, have considerably increased the number of Minaic texts and lexemes. The project will provide, for the first time, a comprehensive analysis of the vocabulary of all the Minaic inscriptions. As a database-based online reference work, the Dictionary of the Minaic language presents the entire linguistic material according to the current state of philological research. It will provide exhaustive translations in context, making the material accessible for researchers of different disciplines.
