This subproject studies the definitions, (re)presentations and modelings of home in German Heimatmuseen and city museums from the late 19th century until today. It does so by pursuing two heavily intertwined research avenues. The first looks at the practice of exhibition-making and the materiality of the museums themselves in frontier regions (German-Belgian and German-French). The second investigates the institutional framing shaped by politics, administration, academia, the cultural sector and education.
