SFB 430:  Cellular mechanisms of sensory processes and neuronal interactions

Subject Area Medicine
Term from 1997 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5480399

The collaborative research centre 430 studies the performance of sensory organs both under normal function and with functional defects as well as the information processing in the central nervous system. In particular in the visual and the auditory system the fundamental processes of transduction and peripheral processing as well as their pathologies are analyzed. Neuronal interactions at subcortical levels are also investigated. Another important topic deals with the causes of degenerative and regenerative processes during normal and pathological development, also with regard to possible therapeutical interventions. Basic neurobiology and medical research are closely connected. Methodically, molecular- and cell biology techniques are predominant, but it is attempted to bridge the gap between the isolated cellular level and a more systemically oriented level of cell interactions.
