PinkyCaMP- new red-shifted genetically encoded calcium sensors

Subject Area Cognitive, Systems and Behavioural Neurobiology
Experimental and Theoretical Network Neuroscience
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 548214625

We want to overcome current technical and methodological limitations and develop improved red-shifted calcium sensors to expand the available toolbox for combined imaging and optogenetic approaches. We will utilize PinkyCaMP3.0 (as this variant already has an increased brightness) as starting point for the development of genetically encoded calcium sensors that will outperform existing red-shifted calcium sensors to readout neuronal activity. These red-shifted Ca2+ sensors will be advantageous when it comes to experiments in which fluorescent sensors are combined with optogenetics, biosensors for neurotransmitters or other imaging approaches.
