Basic analyses on the use of physical plasma for the environmentally friendly synthesis of organic substances - examplary for the synthesis of amino-p-quinones and phenazines

Basic mechanisms of the effect of plasma on phenolic and aminated aromatics alone and in combination of the two different substance classes are investigated. In this way, fine chemicals can be synthesized, for example, for the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, polymers or photovoltaic systems. Para-dihydroxylated aromatic substances and amino compounds are used as model substances for the plasma-mediated synthesis. Through these different substance classes, a comprehensive basic knowledge of the plasma-mediated reactions is created. A decisive advantage of this type of synthesis lies in the production of substances according to the principles of "green chemistry", i.e. without the use of chemical or enzymatic catalysts. Instead, in the project proposed here, non-thermal plasma and different experimental set-ups are used to analize the environmentally friendly synthesis of organic compounds. The aim is to define parameters that can be used for plasma-mediated synthesis and allow an adaption for the production of the desired product. For this purpose, the synthesis of amino-p-quinones and phenazines is analysed as an example. The presence of free amino groups on the individual amino compounds enables the formation of amino-p-quinones. Due to the two neighbouring reactive groups, the synthesis of phenazines can also be carried out by cyclization reactions.
