The project aims to analyse the background and context of the ongoing urban ongoing urban regeneration processes in Ankara and Istanbul in Ankara and Istanbul. It analyses the decision-making mechanisms, influencing factors, the relationships between the actors and the dynamics that characterize the current urban regeneration measures (since 2002). By analyzing the two major cities, the diversity of urban regeneration processes in Turkish metropolises can be classified and systematically presented. For this purpose, it is planned to analyze a number of different urban regeneration measures from both cities in depth, embedded in an overall framework of urban planning experiences and practices for the two cities since the beginnings of the Republic, in order to provide a clear understanding of the background to the current situation in the country. This is complemented by an in-depth examination of the different policies, strategies and approaches to urban regeneration in the context of the crucial laws No. 5366, 5395 and 6306.
