Detailed defects study of extraterrestrial ureilitic carbon

In the proposed project we will aim to evaluate the shock defects in carbon polymorphs induced by the shock event in ureilites. The goal will be to point out the differences in carbon minerals among the different ureilites with different degrees of shock and propose a constrain in the classification of the shock level of this class using micro-X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). This method could be then applied to other carbon-bearing meteorite classes.
