Project Details
Intestinal inflammation modulates liver immune responses (B01)
Subject Area
Gastroenterology
Term

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 530990199
Project B01 aims to decipher the mechanisms by which intestinal inflammation can modulate hepatic immune responses. We will study the role of T and B cell migration between the gut and the liver in primary sclerosing cholangitis-associated inflammatory bowel disease. Moreover, we aim to identify factors driving the migration of protective and pathogenic lymphocytes from the gut into the liver using specific murine knock-out models. In addition, we aim to analyse how the intestinal microbiota can modulate hepatic immune responses and the migration of T and B cells between the intestine and the liver. The proposed experiments will help us to identify mechanisms linking the intestine with hepatic immune regulation and may thus build the basis for new therapies targeting inflammatory diseases.
