PRIMUS - Presentation and legally compliant implementation of digital music editions
Subject Area
Musicology
Term
since 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 555270733
The aim of the project "PRIMUS - Presentation and legally compliant implementation of digital music editions" is to address an essential and previously unaddressed need in musicological research: The development of a description of legal aspects in musicological data and the expansion of a presentation system for the legally compliant provision of complex music editions. The objects and research data of these editions have a variety of copyright, exploitation, personal rights and copyright dimensions. Using the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Complete Edition as an example, the project will look at various legal aspects and situations and map these in a structured and explicit way in a Rights Expression Language. Research objects in the Edirom Online edition software can be played out on the basis of this information. Edirom Online will be connected to the NFDI4Culture identity and access management system for this purpose. Both the rights in the data itself and the rights of third parties to use the data can then be mapped. At the same time, the inclusion of external data in editions (e.g. from library collections) can be mapped in a legally secure manner if the objects are also enriched with corresponding metadata.
