Sub-project A02 is concerned with the simulation-based design and optimization of connections for reused concrete elements with the aim of sustainability-driven design, while minimizing costs and ecological impact. A particular focus are uncertainties related to the residual quality of reused concrete components. The project employs a multi-level hierarchical modelling approach: starting from detailed interface models to study material heterogeneity and surface roughness, moving to mesoscale models for various connection types, and finally developing reduced macroscale connections models for practical engineering applications.
