By developing and building an experimental graph-based e-research tool, the planned project aims to counteract the gap in data modelling which has so far made it impossible to provide scholars with a flexible, expandable, scalable system for text indexing. In the future, this will make it possible to index texts from different traditions with multiple hierarchies (e.g. physical structures such as page, volume, codex or logical structures such as chapter, paragraph, sentence, etc.), to relate the text sections to each other, but also to external sources (e.g. encyclopaedias, standards files) across languages, and to make large-scale and detailed comparisons between all sources, witnesses and branches of the text versions. With the help of a graph database that instantiates an LPG, both indexed full texts including multiple hierarchies and variants of a text from different sources can be stored, aggregated, enriched, searched, exported and visualised. One advantage of the graph-based approach is the potential to extend the initially project-specific data with regard to related edition projects or potential follow-up projects.
