Project Details
Apparatus for the control of doped ultracold quantum gases
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
Funded in 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 564094281
The selective doping of quantum gases with individual atoms of a different element allows experimentally addressing a whole range of scientific questions at the interface between classical and quantum physics in a controlled manner. These include questions of quantum thermodynamics, quantum information processing, or diffusion in complex and driven environments. This apparatus provides the laser sources to dope a quantum gas of rubidium atoms with single or few cesium atoms, and to position and detect the two species independently. It thus provides the basis for experimentally investigating fundamental questions of open systems at the boundary to the quantum world.
