The research project aims at realising a locally modified material design for die casting of hypoeutectic aluminium-silicon (AlSi) alloys to improve mechanical joining properties. This will be achieved and evaluated by actively and passively controlling the cooling rate during solidification throughout the manufacture of die-cast components in collaboration with Bocar GmbH and BTC GmbH. A modified microstructure prevents the formation of cracks during mechanical joining and is the basis for material designs adapted to mechanical joining processes, increasing the versatility of AlSi components.
