The role of the late endosomal pathway in podocytes (B02)

Subject Area Nephrology
Cell Biology
Term since 2025
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 543604419

The lysosome has emerged as a central degradative and signaling node that plays a pivotal role in sensing and orchestrating cellular metabolism and immune responses, facilitating inter-organelle and inter-cellular signaling, and in participating in membrane repair processes. The significance of lysosomes for podocyte homeostasis is unknown as their composition strongly varies between cell types and species. Our overarching aim is to unravel the involvement of lysosomes in podocyte homeostasis and disease, with the latter originating either directly from primary lysosomal dysfunctions or indirectly from various podocyte stressors.
