Scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis is an essential part of the research activities of the Chair of Biomaterials & Polymer Science (BMP). In addition, all interested parties at TU Dortmund University can use the device for their research within the framework of the Chair's own Center for Electron Microscopy and Materials Research (ZEMM). As the BMP Chair primarily synthesizes and explores polymers, the scanning electron microscope (SEM), which has been in operation for over 30 years, already focused on the ability to directly image the surfaces of electrically non-conductive materials in high resolution without coating them with gold, carbon or others, which causes artifacts. As the SEM currently still in use will probably no longer be repairable the next time it breaks down due to a lack of spare parts, this application is for replacing the 30 years old SEM. The performance class of the requested device together with the accessories correspond to the current state of the art and will enable the BMP Chair and all other users to continue their excellent research.
