Project Details
Image-based modelling of angiogenesis and tissue remodelling for electrically active implants (A07*)
Subject Area
Biomaterials
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 299150580
The goal is to develop a multiscale angiogenesis model and investigate the influence of electrical stimulation on the healing of bone and osteochondral defects. This model will serve as a basis for simulating bone remodelling, as angiogenesis is crucial in bone healing. Likewise, the vascularisation of subchondral bone, essential for nutrient supply, is explicitly modelled. Furthermore, a multiscale model of the chondrocyte response to electrical stimulation is established. The coupling of the models should provide insight into the extent to which stimulation parameters or the design of implant scaffolds can be specifically adapted.
