Project Details
Social Policy and Global Welfare: How National Social Protection Regimes Shape International Cooperation (A08*)
Subject Area
Political Science
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 374666841
The project explores how national social policy affects international cooperation in response to three global stressors: natural disasters, climate change, and conflict. It focuses on two mechanisms: (1) Political integration, where the inclusiveness of domestic social programs influences foreign policy attitudes towards global issues and actors, thus shaping global political (dis-)unity; and (2) Socio-economic effectiveness, where the scope of domestic social benefits impacts states' capacity and incentives for global resource sharing. The project develops a liberal theory of welfare-state-driven foreign policy and international cooperation.
