Drawing on new data for up to 165 countries provided by the CRC’s Welfare State Information System, this project investigates the global landscape of welfare systems by exploring their determinants and socioeconomic outcomes. Our empirical strategy consists of three steps. First, we employ principal component analysis alongside advanced clustering methods to identify distinct worlds of welfare regimes and the countries that comprise them. Next, we apply regression analysis to examine the determinants of different worlds of welfare. Finally, we analyze how different worlds of welfare impact social outcomes in terms of poverty and inequality.
